Kayky is expected to see his loan agreement with Sparta Rotterdam torn up by Manchester City as they work to find him a new home this season.
It appears to be the latest in a long-standing run of difficulties endured by the highly-rated winger since making the switch from South American football into the European game back in the summer of 2021.
The Premier League champions, alongside support from the wider City Group, secured both Kayky and his then-teammate Metinho for a combined fee of €15 million, while the former’s deal alone would cost a reported €10 million, with another €15 million in variables.
Despite going on to make a senior debut for Manchester City and featuring in the Premier League upon arriving, decisions were taken to send the player out on loan to develop him skilfully, physically and tactically in the European game.
But after a difficult spell with Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal, Kayky headed back to Brazil with City Group’s Bahia before returning to Manchester City to recover from a serious knee injury. The ongoing campaign then brought fresh optimism with a loan to the Netherlands.
However, according to the information of Voetbal International while translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City’s on-loan Brazilian winger is now likely to have his deal at Sparta Rotterdam brought to an end this month after disappointing his temporary club.
It is claimed that the Dutch side’s technical director, Gerard Nijkamp believed he was taking a ‘Champions League level player’ on -loan from Manchester City, but after six months of injury problems, City now want to find him a new home for the second-half of the campaign.
Despite his struggles since being associated with Manchester City, Kayky has continued to speak highly about his experiences with the club, once glowing during an interview about training alongside the likes of Kevin De Bruyne at the City Football Academy.
“The first player I met was Kevin De Bruyne; he greeted me, I couldn’t believe it,” the young forward said in 2022. “Everyone wants to meet you, you think, ‘Wow, crazy’. A movie plays in your head, you remember playing in the street, ‘All the hard work, worth it’.”
For now, it remains to be seen just how Manchester City foresee Kayky being repositioned within the European game, and whether there is still any hope of progression towards a first-team place at the Etihad Stadium.
