ESTAC Troyes have announced the departure of highly-rated teenager Mathys Detourbet to Manchester City, a club statement has confirmed.
City recently stunned the domestic market by finalising a club-record £116 million package for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, proving that their financial muscle remains largely unmatched ahead of the August 23 Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
However, Hugo Viana’s recruitment has also prioritised locking down promising teenagers before their valuation reaches a premium. City scouts has maintained an extensive dossier on Troyes’ 19-year-old, who played a central role during the 2025/26 campaign by scoring three goals and providing six assists to secure the club’s promotion back to France’s top flight.
Despite interest from Serie A heavyweights Roma – who saw an €8 million plus add-ons proposal knocked back last summer – City have managed to outmanoeuvre rival competition.
Now, in a statement on the official ESTAC Troyes club website, Mathys Detourbet has left the newly-promoted Ligue 1 club to continue his development and career with fellow City Football Group side Manchester City.
Previous reporting from RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins revealed that City officials agreed to a fee worth around €25 million including bonuses, plus the immediate next steps for the teenager from the start of next season.
It was reported in mid-May that an agreement had been reached with French giants AS Monaco over a one-year loan move for Detourbet from the Etihad Stadium, plus an optional additional year.
Fresh details from Hawkins in light of the announcement has also revealed that Detourbet will extend his season-long loan at Monaco by an additional season if he plays five matches for the club.
Should Manchester City want to recall the winger within the next two years, they have to pay a fee to Monaco and despite having priority on the player’s future, Monaco have a buy option and will receive various bonuses.
By shifting the 19-year-old to AS Monaco, Hugo Viana has ensured the player will potentially test his technical capabilities in European competition environment – with the French side securing a UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier place.
The five-match trigger clause discovered by French media heavily incentivises Monaco to integrate Detourbet into their attacking rotations as swiftly as possible, securing a seamless two-year developmental foundation in the principality.
While the inclusion of an optional buy clause for Monaco might initially raise eyebrows among the Etihad Stadium faithful, the financial mechanics heavily protect Manchester City’s long-term interests.
City maintain a matching rights on any potential permanent departure, giving them total control over the player’s ultimate destination.
