Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City squad embark on the knockout stages of the FIFA Club World Cup with a meeting against Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal.

The Premier League giants cruised their way through the group stage of the competition, becoming the only team at the tournament to win all three of their qualifying matches ahead of the last-16 with wins over Wydad AC, Al Ain, and Juventus.

It has been an impressive start for Manchester City this season with notable performances coming from all of their new signings in Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, and Rayan Cherki, while the likes of Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes have also impressed.

It was a table-topping win over Juventus last time out for City at the same stadium that they now return to for the last-16 against Al Hilal, as a 2-5 win over the Italian’s ensured they will avoid all of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain until a possible Final.

As for Simone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal, their last outing saw them defeat Pachuca via a 2-0 scoreline to record a second-placed finish in Group H below Real Madrid to progress beyond the group stage of the tournament.

Ahead of only the second ever meeting between these two sides in any competition or friendly fixture, here is everything you need to know ahead of the encounter at the Camping World Stadium!

Match Details

Manchester City will take on Al Hilal from the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 EDT on Monday night, and 02:00 in the early hours of Tuesday morning for those in the UK.

Team News

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will remain without Claudio Echeverri for the clash against Al Hilal, as the Argentine playmaker continues his recovery from an ankle injury that may end his FIFA Club World Cup campaign as a whole.

Rico Lewis will also continue to be suspended for City after his three-match ban issued by FIFA for the red card on matchday one against Wydad AC, but would become available once more should his teammates secure progression into the quarter-finals of the competition.

Head To Head

Manchester City and Al Hilal will be meeting for only the second time in their respective histories, but for the first ever time in competitive competition after a friendly clash back in July 2012.

It was a solitary and decisive strike from Nawaf Al Abid that proved to be the winning goal for Al Hilal almost 13 years ago as the Saudi Arabian side edged out the newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City in a friendly.

Pep’s Press Conference

“The real time is here! We made a good group stage, I would say the first two games not playing much well. The last one [vs Juventus] was much, much better. And yeah, there is no second chances! We continue here or we go back home.”

“I am an extraordinary manager but cannot control lightning and thunder! I’m sorry! It is what it is; I would like not to be possible, but if it is here I will go inside, continue to be active, and play the game. It’s not ideal but I grew up to not worry about the situations I cannot control. No problem at all.”

“Once we’re here, we’re so proud because many, many teams complain about this competition because they’re not here! Otherwise they would love to be here; their media [coming] here, their supporters here, income in terms of money, and they would be happy to be here.”
