Manchester City are ready to offer up to four first-team stars to bring Sandro Tonali to the Etihad Stadium from Newcastle United this summer, as per a new report.
The Blues are eyeing a double swoop for Tonali and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson to shore up their midfield for the seasons to come, with another big transfer window in store for director of football Hugo Viana and co.
City captain Bernardo Silva and Ballon d’Or winner Rodri could leave the club at the end of the season as the former approaches the end of his contract and the latter flirts with the prospect of joining Real Madrid.
Pep Guardiola has faced questions over his own future at the Etihad Stadium but regardless of who is in the Manchester City dugout next term, Viana and co are prioritising the signing of at least one world-class midfielder ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Tonali is under contract at St. James’ Park till the summer of 2029, with an option to extend the deal by another 12 months till the end of the 2029-30 season.
The 25-year-old has made his name as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in recent seasons under Eddie Howe, attracting interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal in England.
His agent has opened the door for Tonali to leave Newcastle United this summer, in the backdrop of a disappointing year for the Magpies, who are in 12th place in the Premier League table and on the verge of missing out on European football next season.

Newcastle United are not believed to be open to selling Tonali this summer and recent reports have cited that the Italy international will have to force an exit if he wants to pursue a move to the Etihad Stadium ahead of next season.
As reported by Graeme Bailey, Manchester City are willing to offer up to four players – Rico Lewis, Juma Bah, Issa Kabore and James Trafford in a player-plus-cash deal to sign Tonali this summer.
Newcastle are understood to value Tonali at around €100 million, with the Magpies also expectedly licking their lips at the prospect of a bidding war between Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal for their most prized asset.

Trafford is of strong interest to the north-east outfit and is expected to leave Manchester City permanently at the end of a disappointing campaign that has seen the 23-year-old England international play second-fiddle to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Lewis has previously been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest and committed his future to Manchester City by signing a new deal till 2030 in September 2025. However, having barely played for the Blues this term, there is uncertainty over the full-back’s long-term prospects under Guardiola.
