Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has addressed reports linking the club with sensational swoops for Real Madrid forward Rodrgyo and Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Wolves.

City have made six new signings this summer as they look to improve on a third-place Premier League finish from last season and go further in the UEFA Champions League after a disappointing Round of 16 exit at the hands of Real Madrid.

Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Scott Carson have all left the club in recent months, with Jack Grealish joining Everton on loan for the upcoming season this week and James McAtee set to join Nottingham Forest in a £30 million deal.

Vitor Reis has been loaned to CFG-owned side Girona for the 2025-26 season, with Manchester City also eyeing season-long loans for teenage midfield pair Claudio Echeverri and Sverre Nypan, with Middlesbrough believed to have won the race for the latter.

The Manchester City board were keen to trim the first-team wage bill as they embarked upon the summer transfer window and after a major shake-up of Guardiola’s squad ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener against Wolves, there remains business to be done.

Ederson’s future remains in doubt in the closing weeks of the transfer window amid interest from Galatasaray, who are understood to have agreed personal terms with the 31-year-old goalkeeper, who has one year left on his Manchester City contract.

Guardiola considers Ederson part of his plans for the 2025-26 campaign and though Manchester City do not wish to sell the Brazil international, the club will reluctantly sanction a sale for the shotstopper for the right price.

Elsewhere, Tottenham are set to make an improved offer for Manchester City forward Savinho, who is believed to be unsure of his future under Guardiola despite clocking over 3,000 first-team minutes in his debut season in England – having joined from CFG-owned side Troyes in 2024.

Speaking to the press ahead of Manchester City’s 2025-26 Premier League curtain-raiser against Wolves on Saturday, Guardiola was quizzed about the respective future(s) of Ederson and Savinho as we enter the final fortnight of the transfer window.

“I don’t know. If Tottenham, or any other club, wants a player, you should call the club, right? It’s the same like we do! The only thing I’m concerned about today is that Savinho will be with us until all the season, and hopefully for many, many years,” Guardiola said on whether he expects Savinho to stay at Manchester City this season.

“Because at 21 years old, with the potential he (Savinho) has, playing a lot of minutes, he has to improve in final decisions, he’s an extraordinary player.

“But at the end, as always, the desire of the player prevails above everything, and after there has to be an agreement with the club. If you don’t take an agreement, the player will be here.”

Asked about Ederson’s future at the club, Guardiola added: “Ederson didn’t come to me and say, ‘I want to leave’, or ‘I have an offer’.

“All the players are here and are our players and I work with them. What’s going to happen, nobody knows.”

Manchester City have identified Gianluigi Donnarumma as an ideal replacement for Ederson, with the 26-year-old searching for a new club that can meet his salary demands – after a contract standoff with Paris Saint-Germain resulted in a parting of ways between the Italian and the newly-crowned UEFA Champions League winners.

Moreover, City have held talks with representatives of Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, who is the club’s primary attacking target should Tottenham secure the arrival of Savinho, who is keen to join forces with Thomas Frank in north London.
