Manchester United have not made a bid for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres and have no plans to do so, despite reports from Portugal.
Portuguese outlet SIC claimed this weekend that Manchester United had made an attempt to hijack Arsenal’s deal for the forward.
The Gunners have reached an agreement with Gyokeres over a transfer to North London and have agreed terms with Sporting on a fee. However, the deal has been held up as the two clubs struggle to reach an agreement on the payment terms.
That situation has led to suggestions that other clubs could enter the race, but a reported offer from Manchester United has been dismissed. Journalist Ben Jacobs has said there has been no offer from the Red Devils and there are no plans to make a bid. Ruben Amorim perviously worked with Gyokeres during his time in the Portuguese capital.
However, United are aware of Gyokeres’ preference for a move to Arsenal with the Swedish striker optimistic a breakthrough will soon materialise.
Amorim remains intent to bring in a forward before the closure of the transfer window with United currently assessing multiple targets. The signing of a number nine is the next priority for the club, following the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and imminent announcement of Bryan Mbeumo’s transfer from Brentford.
