Manchester United have discussed the prospect of signing Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, though a deal for the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper is complicated.
Donnarumma looks set to leave PSG this summer after failing to agree terms on a contract extension.
The Italy international was a key part of the club’s treble success last season but a new contract has not been agreed. With just 12 months to run on his current deal, PSG are prepared to sell the 26-year-old.
The European champions are nearing a €40m deal for Lille’s Lucas Chevalier and will entertain offers for Donnarumma once a deal is completed.
Flashscore transfer expect Dean Jones is reporting that Manchester United are alert to the situation but has described a deal as ‘complex’.
Manchester United had hoped to offload either Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir this summer, but the former’s hamstring injury has complicated a potential sale. Interest has also been minimal in back-up goalkeeper Bayindir.
The Red Devils have discussed signing ‘another top-tier goalkeeper’ and temporarily ‘carrying the high wages’ of both players, amid concerns over Onana’s performances.
However, that route would impact the ability to sign a centre-forward and defensive midfielder, both of which are being prioritised. That said, there remains a desire to bring in another goalkeeper, either to replace or compete with Onana for the number one shirt.
Chelsea have also been linked with Donnarumma, who has won four Ligue 1 titles during his time in Paris.
