Manchester United are set to take on Liverpool in a battle to sign Antonee Robinson this summer.
A top performer for Fulham this season, the left-back was on Man United’s radar in January, although no deal was made.
Despite Fulham’s insistence on keeping Robinson at the club, it appears that the player himself is open to leaving despite being happy.
This has reignited transfer talk over the full-back, with United set to face some fierce competition as they look to lure him to Old Trafford.
“At Old Trafford they are intensifying their surveillance of a full-back whose contract expires in 2028,” Fichajes wrote this morning.
“A player who, incidentally, is also on the shopping list of a Liverpool team that is flying high towards the Premier title. Robinson’s valuation will not fall below €50m, so the Red Devils and the Merseyside team already know the price to pay for the defender. There is no more competition in this market,” the article continued.
A left-back by nature, Robinson has been performing as a wing-back in recent times, thereby grabbing the attention of United manager Ruben Amorim if reports are to be believed.
No doubt Amorim is on the lookout for talented wing-backs who will blend seamlessly into his preferred 3-4-3 formation.
Given his performance metrics this season, Robinson seems to be an ideal fit.
In 28 Premier League matches, Robinson has provided an impressive 10 assists, showing his attacking flair.
Still, he remains a hard-working defender, averaging 2.5 tackles per game while making 3.1 clearances per outing. He has also avoided committing any errors leading to either a shot or a goal. (Stats via Sofascore)
Should Robinson be valued at around £40 million to £50 million as reports suggest, it may well be worth United’s time to pursue the potentially transformative signing.
