Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann is under consideration to be the next Manchester United manager, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The 38-year-old is open to opportunities elsewhere despite having two years left on his current contract but Man United have held no formal talks or interviewed anyone.

While the Red Devils have told Michael Carrick that he is one of the leading contenders to be named the permanent boss, nothing is guaranteed yet.

Man United have picked up just one point in their last two games and missing out on Champions League qualifications could cost the former midfielder the job.

He was told he would only be in charge until the end of the season when he was given the job, but the Red Devils opted against calling him the interim manager.

Carrick will be desperate to return to winning ways against Chelsea on Saturday following the defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Luis Enrique, Gareth Southgate, Xabi Alonso and Enzo Maresca are reportedly not being considered by Man United (The United Stand).

Nagelsmann proved himself at club level during stints with TSG Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. Winning the World Cup in June will further strengthen his credentials.

Carrick will hope his players can step up in their remaining six fixtures of the campaign as his managerial future could depend on the results.
