In a recent print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport (page 16) mentioned that Manchester United have launched a move to land Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios. It has been claimed that the Red Devils have entered the race to acquire the services of the Colombian talent this off-season.
Rios enjoyed a decent run of form at the Brazilian club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Colombian sensation has scored four goals and grabbed four assists in 35 appearances for Palmeiras this season across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old has proven himself to be a consistent performer in Brazilian football. He has also been accurate with his ball distribution after making 81.7% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian Serie A (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Brazilian club will expire at the end of 2028. Hence, it would be difficult for Man United to land him on the cheap this summer.

Rios is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually clears his lines when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. Furthermore, the Colombian sensation can even chip in by scoring and creating some important goals going forward.
Rios is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to maintain his good form in the Premier League if Man United manage to snap him up this summer.
Rios would bring more bite and steel to Ruben Amorim’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford next season.
At 25, the Colombian midfield ace has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for the Red Devils to consider in this summer transfer period. However, Amorim needs to give Rios some time to adjust to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League.
