Sesko has been sidelined for a month, since suffering a knee injury in the 2-2 draw at Tottenham in early November. The setback has hampered Sesko's start at United, which has so far garnered two goals in 12 games.

United head coach Ruben Amorim has previously said Sesko is expected to return in late December, but Elvis Basanovic has now hinted at an earlier-than-expected comeback.

Slovenian television, via Global Game Media, Basanovic is quoted as saying: "Benjamin is feeling very well. His rehabilitation is progressing according to plan.

"It’s hard to say precisely when he will return. That will be up to the medical staff and the manager, but I think we’ll see him back on the pitch very soon. Maybe even sooner than expected."

Basanovic is happy with Sesko's move to United, who he believes will again be challenging for the Premier League title within two years - and have credited Amorim for the work he has done after a year in the job with the progress being "clear".

He continued: "Manchester United did well in the transfer market this summer. They brought in some excellent players who will prove over the next few years that they deserve to wear this shirt."

I believe that within the next two years, United can challenge for the very top spots.

"[Matheus] Cunha, [Bryan] Mbeumo and Sesko have played very few matches together," he added. "They need games, certain automatisms, and then things become easier. When you don’t have to think about where a player is or where he’s going to run, but you do it automatically. Then the results come, and everything looks much better."

Basanovic continued: "We all want them to compete for the league title, but we can’t expect that to happen overnight. Every project needs time and the right decisions, and I think they are on the right track. I believe that within the next two years, United can challenge for the very top spots."

"Ruben is an excellent person with fantastic charisma," he contined. "He is extremely intelligent, emotionally intelligent. He knows what he is doing. I believe it’s not easy to build such a project, one that requires an enormous amount of patience. United is one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world.

“He is a very honest person. A good man, everything he does, he does with good intentions. He is also exceptionally professional, and I believe he is an outstanding coach. He has his own vision and knows how to bring United back to the top.

“But he needs time, which is difficult to explain in such a big club. Everyone wants immediate results, but this team and Ruben deserve time. Progress is clear compared to last season, and I believe next year will be even better. Another year later, we can realistically expect a push for the Premier League title."
