Casemiro, Benjamin Sesko and Manuel Ugarte were all left off the team sheet after picking up injuries last week.

With just two matches left in this Premier League campaign, at home to Nottingham Forest and away at Brighton, it remains to be seen wehter any of the absentees will play again for United this season or, in Casemiro’s case, ever.

With that in mind, here is all the latest Manchester United injury news and potential return dates...

Veteran midfielder Casemiro has been a mainstay for United this season, so it was a surprise to see his name left off the team sheet against Sunderland.

His time with the club is due to expire at the end of this season, but he is expected to play again before the campaign is out.

Carrick explained ahead of the Sunderland match that he had picked up a minor issue and would return in short order.

“(Casemiro) will be fine for next week,” he said. “It is nothing major.”

Potential return date: May 17 vs Nottingham Forest (H)

Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko was hooked at half-time of United’s win over Liverpool after a colission with Ibrahima Konate sent him crashing into the advertising hoardings.

Carrick revealed after the match that he had aggravated a pre-existing issue: “He's been carrying a shin problem for some time, he got pushed and caught the bit that's been causing him some problems.”

And speaking ahead of facing Sunderland, he revealed that Sesko had not taken part iin full training last week. On matchday, he rehashed the same point but offered little clarity as to the severity of the injury.

He added on Saturday: “Ben (Sesko) has been carrying a shin problem for some time and he took another quite big bang on it, he obviously had to come off last week.”

It remains unclear how long the injury will keep the big Slovenian sidelined.

Potential return date: Unknown

Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte has been in and out of the United side this season, but has played a markedly minimal role under Carrick.

Even so, it was a surprise to see him left off the team sheet at the Stadium of Light.

Speaking ahead of kick-off, Carrick revealed he had picked up a back injury in training midweek which saw him miss out.

“Manu (Ugarte) had a problem with his back in midweek, so that’s the injuries ironed out,” he explained.

It is not entirely clear how severe Ugarte’s injury is, or whether he will be able to play again this season.

Matthijs de Ligt’s race against time to play again for United this season is going down to the wire.

The defender has not graced the pitch since picking up a lower back injury in November, but has returned to training in recent weeks.

It remains unclear, though, whether he will return this season or for the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup.

Speaking earluier this month, Carrick said of the Dutchman: “It's different treatment and different exercises. He's in the gym and doing work but he's not quite on the grass and he's not ready for that yet.

“That's the process that unfortunately when you're injured you’ve to go through. Sometimes it happens quick quicker than others and sometimes there's things that don't quite go to plan and it's a bit slower.

“He's just at that stage where he's working through that at the moment and we're trying to get him back right.”
