The Red Devils are next in action against Liverpool on 19 October
Ruben Amorim will hope to see his Manchester United side boosted by some stars building up fitness over the international break, ahead of their visit to Anfield in a few weeks’ time.
The Red Devils earned a crucial win over Sunderland on Saturday to ease pressure on the under-fire Portuguese, who was rumoured to be in real jeopardy of losing his job had his team been defeated.
United welcomed Amad Diallo and Casemiro back into their starting XI for that match, and there’s a chance they could do the same with at least one other member of the first-team squad against Liverpool.
Having missed out against Sunderland as well as versus Brentford the previous week, Noussair Mazraoui was ruled out “until the international break” in the latest update we got from Amorim.
The Moroccan defender has been dealing with a thigh injury since pre-season, but could be ready for the trip to Anfield after the upcoming internationals are wrapped up.
Whether he starts or comes off the bench upon his return is another matter, given the likes of Diogo Dalot, Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu are all available as alternative wing-back options while Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Matthijs de Ligt continue to compete for starting spots in the back three.
Potential return date: October 19, 2025 vs Liverpool (H)
Another central defensive option in United’s squad is of course Lisandro Martinez, who has been out of action since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury back in February.
The Red Devils have been reluctant to place any firm timeline on his return, but we did hear that he recently returned to team training.
“When you have that injury, you have that time where you recover a lot of things really hard, then there is the boring part where it looks like you don't go to the next step,” Amorim said in a recent update. “We miss a lot Licha, especially in this moment, we miss his aggression in everything he does, we miss him.
“But he's always there in every meeting. In training, he sometimes finishes his and stays to watch the training. We need Licha in this team.”
It’s hard to say exactly when the Argentine will be fit to start again, but a first appearance of the 2025-25 campaign before the end of the year seems feasible.
