Manchester United target Lucas Chevalier appears keen on moving to the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim rested Andre Onana against West Ham United, handing Altay Bayındır a rare opportunity to impress but the Turkish goalkeeper delivered a below par performance in the 2-0 defeat against the Hammers.
Much has already been written about Onana’s high-profile mistakes, and it seems the goalkeeping department could be one of United’s biggest concerns during the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness), United are interested in LOSC Lille No 1 Chevalier.
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting goalkeepers, impressing with his reflexes, composure, and brave style of shot-stopping.
The Frenchman has been tipped to replace Mike Maignan as France’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The French publication also mention Paris Saint-Germain as an interested party, but the Ligue 1 champions have reportedly cooled their interest due to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s impressive showings, especially in the Champions League.
It is suggested that United could push to sign Chevalier this summer, and to their delight, he recently talked about his desire to move to the Premier League.
“The Premier League? It’s a league that makes you dream, the most attractive,” he said at the UNFP award ceremony.
“When you see Tottenham, Manchester United struggling with crazy players, you can see the level a bit. I have a two-year contract, and you know the president [laughs]. I haven’t had any specific offers from this country, but it makes you think.”
Onana should return to Amorim’s starting lineup for the Europa League final late in May, but there should definitely be question marks over his ability to remain between the sticks at Old Trafford next season.
The ex-Inter Milan star has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, and should he leave, Chevalier could certainly prove to be a very promising replacement.
