Manchester United have reportedly decided to appeal against Lisandro Martinez’s red card against Leeds United.

The Argentine was controversially sent off in the second half of Monday’s home encounter for tugging on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair.

The referee missed the incident and VAR sent him to the pitchside monitor. Following a review, the official decided to dismiss Martinez.

Manager Michael Carrick was unhappy with the red card, describing it as ‘absolutely shocking’

Carrick also hinted after the match that United would appeal the decision.

The Telegraph report the club have now reached that conclusion.

Martinez’s red card means he will miss the next three fixtures against Chelsea, Brentford and Liverpool.

Harry Maguire is also at risk of missing Saturday’s home game against the Blues after being hit with an FA charge alleging improper conduct.

United have seen a revival under Carrick, who made an immediate impact after taking over as interim head coach.

The English boss has led the Red Devils to seven wins from 11 Premier League matches.

They are on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League, as they sit third in the standings with six games remaining.

But recent results have been less encouraging for the Old Trafford supporters.

United suffered a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth last month before falling to a shocking 2-1 defeat at home to Leeds on Monday.

Martinez’s dismissal was a blow, but the reason they lost was their awful first-half display when they conceded twice.
