Manchester United make decision on Michael Carrick’s future after Brighton defeat | OneFootball

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is already facing scrutiny after the club’s poor start to the new season.

The Red Devils crashed out of the League Cup at the first hurdle after Brighton & Hove Albion recovered from 2-0 down to seal a sensational 3-2 success at Old Trafford.

United are reportedly doing their due diligence if they are forced to sack Carrick early this season.

However, The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell says his position is secure, and there are no indications the club is preparing contingencies for replacements.

Carrick needs a victory at Fulham

United have won just two of their six games across all competitions this season.

Carrick’s men defeated Ipswich Town 5-2 in the Premier League and later thrashed Sabah FK 4-0 in the Champions League.

However, their last two performances have been particularly concerning.

United lost 1-0 to Manchester City last weekend, despite their derby rivals playing with 10 men for over an hour.

The Red Devils were 2-0 ahead within the first 10 minutes against Brighton thanks to goals from Shea Lacey and Mason Mount.

However, goals by Charalampos Kostoulas, Pascal Gross and Maxim De Cuyper sealed a brilliant comeback victory for the Seagulls.

United will play their final league game at Fulham on Sunday before the international break.

Carrick must lead his team to victory at Craven Cottage, otherwise the pressure will further increase on him.
