Manchester United've intensified their efforts to sign Brighton’s Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba with talks already underway to finalise potential record breaking transfer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Red Devils contacted Baleba’s agents on Tuesday to gather detailed information on financial demands.

The Manchester Evening News recently reported that United are preparing 100 million sterling pound (€115m) bid for the 21 year old. If accepted Baleba would become the most expensive signing in United’s history surpassing Paul Pogba’s 105m euro move from Juventus in 2016 and one of the biggest transfers in football history.

Baleba who joined Brighton from Lille for 27m euro, could also become the most expensive African player ever overtaking Nicolas Pepe’s 80m euro move from Lille to Arsenal in 2019.

With negotiations ongoing, United're aiming to secure Baleba before other top european clubs join the race.
