Manchester United put Old Trafford turf pieces on sale for £125 | OneFootball

Manchester United are offering supporters the chance to buy preserved pieces of Old Trafford’s old pitch for £125 ($165), presented in glass cubes.

According to Goal.com, the sale follows a complete relaying of the surface in June, when the pitch was stripped back to its base for the first time in 14 years.

The digging work was completed by club groundsperson Tony Sinclair, and the surface was regrown to improve player welfare and drainage. Sections of the removed turf were then set aside for fans to collect.

That grass hosted the highs of the Sir Alex Ferguson era, including 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues and multiple FA Cups. It also witnessed low points such as 5-0 against Liverpool and 6-1 against Tottenham.

Most recently it framed a 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat by Brighton after United had led 2-0 at half-time, the first home loss in 42 years in that scenario.

With a new surface now in place, United and their supporters will hope it underpins better football and helps restore Old Trafford’s aura.
