Manchester United have firmly closed the door on AS Roma's initial attempt to secure striker Joshua Zirkzee. As reported by Corriere dello Sport, the Italian club's opening gambit was a loan deal featuring a "purchase option contingent on Champions League qualification" for the upcoming season.
From a sporting perspective, this "conditional clause" is far from fanciful, with Roma currently sitting comfortably inside Serie A's top four. However, the proposal failed to impress the Manchester United hierarchy. The club's decision-makers, unconvinced by the non-guaranteed nature of the offer, have opted to "reject the bid and adopt a wait-and-see approach" regarding their Dutch international's future.
This rebuff now forces the Giallorossi back to the drawing board. If they are serious about luring Zirkzee to the Italian capital, they must "go back to the basics" and prepare a revised offer. Any new proposal will likely need to present "more solid financial guarantees or a different set of terms" to have any hope of softening United's stance.
Zirkzee's arrival at Old Trafford was met with significant fanfare, but his performances have only "partially justified the expectations" so far. With just a single goal in eight appearances across all competitions this season, his early struggles have inevitably fueled "speculation about his future." Despite this, it is clear that Manchester United "are not willing to let him go under just any conditions," signaling they will only entertain a deal that properly reflects their valuation.
