Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Ederson from Atalanta, following Brazil’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup.
Brazil bowed out of the tournament on Sunday evening after a 2-1 defeat to an Erling Haaland-inspired Norway in the last 16. Ederson was a 79th minute substitute in the clash but will now return home from North America.
Manchester United agreed a deal to sign the 27-year-old for a fee of around £35m earlier in the summer, though the finalisation of the transfer was postponed after Ederson was called into the Brazil squad. The midfielder was a late inclusion, following Wesley’s withdrawal through injury.
With Brazil’s campaign now over, Sky Sports are reporting that Ederson is set to complete his medical examinations with the Red Devils before completing the transfer.
He will become Michael Carrick’s first signing as permanent head coach and will boost a midfield depleted by the exit of Brazil teammate Casemiro. The latter is expected to sign with MLS outfit Inter Miami as a free agent.
