Manchester United ‘to hold talks’ with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over interim role after Ruben Amorim exit | OneFootball

According to The Athletic, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a leading candidate to act as Manchester United’s interim manager until the end of the season after Ruben Amorim was removed on Monday, and club officials are expected to meet him in the coming days.

United are sixth in the Premier League. Solskjaer, 52, played for the club from 1996 to 2007 and managed them from March 2019 to November 2021.

He most recently had a brief stint at Besiktas from January to August 2025. Michael Carrick, 44, is due to have an interview and is available after a Middlesbrough spell from 2022 to 2025. The former United midfielder was at the club from 2006 to 2018.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took interim charge after Erik ten Hag’s departure last season, would also be a possibility.

For now, Under-18s coach Darren Fletcher will lead the team on Wednesday at Burnley in the 21st round of league fixtures. Jonny Evans has returned to the club as an assistant.
