Ian Wright Urges Manchester United Move for Forest Midfield Duo

Wright Identifies United’s Midfield Need

Ian Wright has urged Manchester United to look closely at Nottingham Forest midfielders Elliot Anderson and Ibrahim Sangare as potential signings capable of reshaping their engine room.

United’s midfield has lacked authority, athleticism and consistency, qualities both Forest players could offer in different ways. Anderson, now an England international, has attracted major interest, with Manchester City also understood to be monitoring the 23-year-old former Newcastle United midfielder.

Manchester United remain keen, although any deal would come at a serious cost. Forest are expected to demand at least £100million, a figure that reflects Anderson’s development, Premier League experience and growing status.

Sangare’s Physical Profile Appeals

Sangare has also been linked with Manchester United, and Wright believes the Ivory Coast international’s power could make a major difference.

Wright said on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast: “You know who I quite liked as well? That Sangare at Forest?

“He has got that… You know something? When I watched him, I thought to myself, obviously, maybe some of the technical, but like he’s, physicality.

“That’s the kind of player, you know, with Utd.

“You could get him in at Utd, with the quality around him, you just do that.

“Just do that physical stuff.

“I think that’s the kind of profile.”

It was a revealing endorsement. Manchester United have often looked too open in central areas, too easy to run through, too dependent on moments rather than control. Sangare would not arrive as a glamour signing, but Wright sees a player who could provide balance, duels and bite.

Anderson Fee Sparks Keane Warning

Wright has also pushed for Manchester United to go all out for Anderson, whose rise at Forest has been one of the more compelling midfield stories in the Premier League.

Yet Roy Keane has urged caution. The former Manchester United captain does not believe INEOS should pay more than £70million for the England international.

Keane said about Man Utd and Anderson: “You [Gary Neville] say all out for him.”

That warning matters. United have been here before, paying elite fees for players still developing, then asking them to carry the weight of Old Trafford expectation.

Anderson may well have the intensity, intelligence and technical range to thrive. Sangare may offer the physical platform United need. Wright’s argument is clear, Manchester United require midfielders with presence, purpose and Premier League readiness.

The question is no longer whether United admire them. It is whether admiration becomes discipline, or another expensive gamble.
