Manchester United and Arsenal clash at Old Trafford on Sunday in a blockbuster Premier League opener.
After a calamitous campaign saw United slump to a 15th-place finish, Ruben Amorim has been backed with a major attacking overhaul to ignite a recovery. Their opponents, Arsenal, arrive with their own clear objective: to finally go one better than their recent second-place finishes and win the Premier League title.
This fixture is always charged with history, but Sunday’s encounter carries extra intrigue. United’s new striker Benjamin Šeško was heavily linked with the Gunners before signing for the Red Devils.
Rúben Amorim is set to unleash his new-look attack, with summer signings Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha all in contention for their first competitive starts. In a further boost, fellow forward Joshua Zirkzee has recovered from a pre-season injury and is also available.
In defence, however, the continued absence of Lisandro Martínez will force a reshuffle. Young centre-back Leny Yoro is expected to partner Harry Maguire and either Luke Shaw or Matthijs De Ligt in a back three.
Mikel Arteta is also set to integrate key new signings from the start. Midfielder Martin Zubimendi is in line for his debut, while striker Viktor Gyökeres is expected to lead the line immediately, with Gabriel Jesus sidelined with a long-term injury. Fellow new arrival Noni Madueke is also poised to feature.
The Gunners have been strengthened by the return to fitness of both Leandro Trossard and Jurriën Timber, with the latter bolstering a formidable defence alongside William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães. Arteta reports no new injury or suspension concerns, giving him a strong squad to choose from.
Rúben Amorim’s side navigated pre-season unbeaten, winning the Premier League Summer Series in the process. However, three draws from their five matches suggest the new-look team is still a work in progress as they build cohesion.

Mikel Arteta’s men had a mixed pre-season, recording a number of convincing victories against strong opposition while losing against Premier League rivals Spurs and Spanish side Villarreal. However, their consistent performances in the previous seasons have underlined their credentials as genuine title contenders, and they will arrive at Old Trafford full of confidence.
Manchester United: Onana; Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Diallo, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha, Šeško.
Arsenal predicted: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Zubimendi, Ødegaard, Rice; Saka, Gyökeres, Martinelli.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League in the UK, with coverage starting from 4pm BST. Subscribers can also stream the action live via the Sky Go app.
