Manchester United take on Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final this evening.
A late Lyon goal earned the French side a dramatic 2-2 draw in the first meeting a week ago, ahead of tonight’s return at Old Trafford. United goalkeeper Andre Onana was at fault for both goals and was dropped for the 4-1 weekend defeat at Newcastle. However, Ruben Amorim has confirmed the Cameroonian will return to the side.
There’s bad news on Joshua Zirkzee, however, who will miss the rest of the season. The Dutch forward sustained a hamstring issue on Sunday. Zirkzee joins Matthijs de Ligt, Amad Diallo, Ayden Heaven, Lisandro Martinez, and Toby Collyer on the sidelines.
Lyon are without Malick Fofana and Ernest Nuamah due to knee injuries. The latter’s ACL injury means he will not play again this season.

After two encouraging displays against Manchester City and Lyon, the Red Devils saw familiar flaws return at the weekend. Well beaten at Newcastle, Ruben Amorim’s rotated side suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at St James’ Park. Currently 14th in the Premier League table, all eggs are now in the Europa League basket.
Despite a difficult domestic campaign, United will hope Rasmus Hojlund can rediscover his goalscoring touch in Europe. Hojlund has five goals in seven Europa League starts this season.

Lyon warmed up for the return with a comfortable 3-1 win at Auxerre in Ligue 1. Goals from Georges Mikautadze, Rayan Cherki, and Alexandre Lacazette did the damage to extend the French side’s strong league form. Lyon have won five of their last six league games in Ligue 1 to climb into fourth place in the table. Caretaker manager Jorge Maciel has had a huge impact and is aiming to guide Les Gones to silverware and Champions League qualification.
Lyon levelled in stoppage time of the first leg as Rayan Cherki netted a 95th-minute equaliser. Cherki turned in on the rebound after Andre Onana failed to hold Corentin Tolisso’s effort.
Onana had also been at fault for the opening goal. Thiago Almada’s in-swinging free-kick evaded everyone, including the Manchester United goalkeeper, to find the far corner.
United responded to that initial setback impressively. Leny Yoro scored his first goal for the club in first-half stoppage time to equalise, before Joshua Zirkzee headed in a second for the visitors. The Red Devils looked set to claim a precious lead before Onana’s error gifted Lyon a late leveller.
Manchester United: Onana; Dalot, Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro, Dorgu; Ugarte, Casemiro; Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund.
Lyon: Perri; Maitland-Niles, Mata, Niakhate, Tagliafico; Vererout, Tolisso, Akouokou; Almada; Cherki, Mikautadze.
