The three players are set to represent their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations duty, and FIFA rules state that United must release the players no later than today, December 15.

Mbeumo will play for Cameron, Amad will represent Ivory Coast and Mazrouari will turn out for hosts Morocco at the tournament, which is due to begin om Sunday, December 22.

United head coach Ruben Amorim was asked about the trio at his pre-match press conference on Friday, insisting he was still nonethewiser over their availability.

Amorim said: “We are still in conversations with the national teams, the game is on Monday so they are training and we are trying to prepare all scenarios. It’s frustrating but at the same time nobody knows who is going to play, so it’s a good thing. We have players to cope with everything.

“With a long week you can work on several things to prepare for the game. Every national team has their ideas about when they want the players.

“I expect to have a decision [on Saturday] but we are waiting until the last moment to choose the best team.”

All three have been pictured in training at United’s Carrington base ahead of tonight’s fixture, which kicks off at 8pm GMT at Old Trafford.

The current expectation is that at least Mbeumo and Amad will be included in the matchday squad, before leaving for after the game to comply with FIFA regulations. Mazraoui remains a fitness doubt for the game, so could depart for Morocco earlier.

AFCON runs until January 18, 2026, which means United could be without one or a number of the three for up to seven games - six in the Premier League and the FA Cup third round.
