Manuel Neuer ‘certain’ the World Cup is his last tournament | OneFootball

After returning to international football for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite retiring from the German national team in 2024, Manuel Neuer expects this summer’s tournament to be his last for Die Nationalelf.

“For me, it’s basically certain that this is my last tournament,” explained Neuer. “I don’t intend on being in goal at the European Championship in two years.”

Neuer retired after Euro 2024 but returned to the German national team after discussions with Julian Nagelsmann, who instated Bayern Munich’s custodian as his No.1 ahead of Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann.

Neuer, who has 125 caps for Germany, added: “I don’t want to dwell on the possibility that these could be my last games for Germany. I handled it the same way at the European Championship, which is why there was no statement after the elimination against Spain.”
