England national team captain Harry Kane wasn’t the only player rotated out ahead of Bayern Munich’s latest Bundesliga victory. The 22-year-old heir apparent to German footballing legend Manuel Neuer did extremely well to collect his second clean sheet in as many appearances.
Urbig certainly hasn’t seen as anywhere near as much action as he did last season, when an injury to Neuer saw him collect eight Bundesliga and four Champions League appearances after the turn of the 2025 calendar year. Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has nevertheless kept Urbig in his plans.
After his last league start against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday eight, Kompany deemed it worthwhile to lend Urbig back-to-back starts against his old club 1. FC Köln in the Pokal. Urbig emerged victorious against his old academy side. Everything proceeds according to plan for the developmental prospect. Urbig made clear that he felt himself to be in safe hands whilst speaking in the mixed zone.
“I found out I would start at 11 o’clock this morning,” Urbig revealed. “I’m always prepared in case something happens. If something had happened to me today, Manuel would have been ready. That’s how we prepare ourselves as a joint goalkeeping team, so that anyone can step in.“
