Mapi León signs three-year deal with London City Lionesses | OneFootball

Just days after completing the signing Alexia Putellas, London City Lionesses have now announced the arrival of Mapi León on a three-year deal.

Like Putellas, León joins the club after a lengthy and trophy-laden stay with Barcelona. The Spanish defender first joined the Catalan side from Atlético de Madrid in 2017 and then went on to win four Champions League titles with the club.

"I’m excited and happy to be here," the 31-year-old said on her arrival. "It’s an interesting and attractive project. I have seen what is being built and what is taking shape.

"I played in Spain for many years and I felt now was the right time to move given the project. The English league is helping women’s football grow. I wanted to test myself in another country, another league, playing a different type of football."

León went on to praise owner Michele Kang before stating her goals in English football: "My intention here is to reach the highest level as quickly as possible. Everything in a project goes in stages and requires hard work.

"I want to keep winning and still have the determination to be able to achieve this. Hopefully we can do this with London City Lionesses."

Last season, León played 33 times for Barça in all competitions, chipping in with two goals from defence.
