The Spanish defender Marc Cucurella was reportedly one of the players on the FC Barcelona radar as the Blaugranes are expecting some changes on their left flank in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, this is no longer as the case, as the fullback has already completed a move, and joined none other than the bitterest rivals of the Catalan side, Real Madrid.
This move is not going to endear the Spaniard, who has been trained at La Masia, to Barcelona fans, even though the transfer is expected to bring some millions to the Blaugrana club’s coffers.
Meanwhile, his move to Real Madrid has also not kept Cucurella from speaking highly of one of the biggest stars in Hansi Flick’s team, i.e., the winger Lamine Yamal. The two players are currently sharing the dressing with the Spanish national team, and would be working together to bring the biggest international trophy back to the Iberian country.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the fullback appeared in an interview with the newspaper El Mundo, and spoke highly of the Barcelona forward. He noted how Yamal has changed over the years:
“I’ve noticed a big change in him since the Euros. I think he’s much more mature now. He’s already spent several years in professional football and knows what he has to do.”
“And I’m very happy to be able to enjoy having him with us in the national team. Hopefully he has recovered well from his injury and can help us a lot.”
Meanwhile, the defender clarified that the added responsibility has not kept the winger from enjoying himself on the pitch:
“He handles it very well, very naturally. He’s still the same kid. More mature, but the same kid he was before he became such a star or so famous. That’s his best quality: at his age, the way he deals with all of this so naturally. And he’s only 18. I don’t think everyone would be capable of handling that.”
Furthermore, Cucurella also highlighted how big a star Yamal has become despite still being only 18 years of age:
“It’s incredible. I went on holiday to Dubai and even there I came across a billboard with Lamine on it.”
Having signed for Real Madrid, Marc Cucurella is going to play frequently against Lamine Yamal and several other players from the current Spanish national team. Barcelona fans would be particularly eager to see their beloved winger getting the better of the La Masia trained fullback, as they are going to come head to head because of their positions. But for now, these two players would have to work together to achieve glory with their national team.
