Liverpool narrowly missed out on signing Marc Guehi over the summer transfer window.
Having seemingly chased the Crystal Palace captain throughout the summer, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes finally submitted an official offer on transfer deadline day.

Liverpool were willing to pay an initial £35m for the England international - whose contract expires in summer 2026. But the deal was called OFF at the last minute when Crystal Palace backed out owing to a failure to land a suitable replacement.
Having sold Jarell Quansah - and with question marks over both Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez’s long-term futures - the Premier League champions could have done with another high-quality defender coming through the door.
Those needs are even more pronounced now that Giovanni Leoni has been ruled out of action for up to a year as a result of a debilitating ACL injury.
Liverpool now only have Virgil van Dijk as well as Konate and Gomez as their senior fit centre-back options - meaning a move for Guehi or another defender is a necessity in January or next summer.
The consequence of losing out on 25-year-old Guehi however is that all of a sudden other clubs will have a chance to sign him all over again.
A Liverpool deal looked certain - but now according to a new report in Caught Offside the door is open for other clubs such as Tottenham, Manchester City and Manchester United in the Premier League as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Palace are said to be open to SELLING Guehi for between €20m and €30m in January as they seek to make a return on their captain and Spurs are described as being among the frontrunners right now for Guehi.
Liverpool are mentioned as possessing an interest in the former Chelsea youth as they view Guehi as a long-term solution at centre-back.
