Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United legacy was unmistakable at Wembley during Friday night’s England friendly, and he explained why he sought out former Leeds defender Ben White.

"I simply said hello to him. Obviously I have known him for a very long time. I was just very happy to see him and happy to see how he has developed in his career so I simply just saw him as I was sitting there and it was an opportunity to see him and say hello." He told The Athletic.

Leeds supporters arrived with Bielsa flags and chanted his name outside, with those banners visible around the ground. Before kick-off, the Uruguay coach went to the England bench to greet White.

In the second half, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin came on. White later tapped in at the far post in the 81st minute to put England ahead, before a contentious late penalty for a White foul let Federico Valverde equalise.

The affection continued after the whistle as Whites fans stopped the Uruguay team bus to ask for photos, Bielsa smiling and waving while his squad departed.
