Marcelo Moreno has announced his retirement for a second time, this time for good, after a brief 2026 comeback ended without a World Cup call-up.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the 38-year-old resumed playing solely to be selected for Bolivia’s play-off squad, signing for Oriente Petrolero. He was overlooked by Eduardo Villegas and Bolivia then lost the spot to Jordan.

In a social media post, he thanked Oriente Petrolero, describing it as both his first and last professional club, alongside a video from his final appearances.

Moreno scored six goals in five matches this season but voiced frustration in April after being left out. He even dedicated two goals to Villegas, said the coach had made a mistake by overlooking his 17 years of service, and placed the blame entirely on him, adding they would have to wait to see if he was dismissed.

At Flamengo in 2013 he failed to convince, managing four goals and one assist in 20 outings. He lost his place to the then little-known Hernane Brocador, who inspired a third Copa do Brasil title that year.
