Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz condemned the refereeing after a 2-1 defeat to Mirassol at the Maião in the 14th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro on Sunday night. According to Meu Timao, he argued borderline calls went against the club and that the officials, led by Matheus Delgado Candançan, fell below expectations.

At 14 minutes, Edson Carioca slid in from behind on Matheus Pereira. The referee initially showed a red card, but after a VAR review it was downgraded to yellow.

Soon after, a penalty was given against Matheus Bidu for a challenge on Carlos Eduardo inside the area. There was no VAR intervention and Carlos Eduardo converted, putting the hosts in front.

Later, Shaylon tangled with Rodrigo Garro and, in Corinthians’ view, trod on the Argentine’s foot in the build-up to Mirassol’s second. Paz said the foul should have been called because it directly preceded the move that ended with Edson Carioca scoring.

His criticism extended to the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva, which suspended goalkeeper Hugo Souza for comments after the 12 April derby. Thiago Mendes of Vasco was acquitted last week over remarks about referee Davi Lacerda after the 26 April match, although one rapporteur sought a one-match ban that remains under review.

Paz said Corinthians will keep attending CBF refereeing meetings and will seek explanations. The focus now shifts to the Libertadores, with Independiente Santa Fe at El Campín on Wednesday at 21:30 in the fourth round of Group E.
