After Sunday (25)’s draw with Red Bull Bragantino, Santos president Marcelo Teixeira said the club must speed up their search for reinforcements to replace recent losses.
According to Diario Do Peixe, he outlined financial and bureaucratic hurdles that have slowed talks, while stressing that recruitment remains a priority within budget limits.
Teixeira acknowledged significant absences at the start of the season, increasing the need to replenish the squad, including in Guilherme’s case. He added that options are being assessed but any deal must fit the finances.
Pressure for additions has grown since the state competition began. So far only two players have arrived, forward Gabriel Barbosa from Cruzeiro and midfielder Gabriel Menino, formerly Atlético-MG, both on loan.
Santos have pursued wide players and also tried to sign defensive midfielder Loyola, without success. The club continue to look for a winger, a midfielder and a left-back.
Left-back was not initially planned, with Vinícius Lira and Escobar expected to cover Souza’s exit, but criticism of the position has prompted a change of course.
The urgency is sharpened by fixtures, the Brasileiro opener against Chapecoense on Wednesday (28) and the final rounds of the Paulistão.
