Marco Silva asks Rui Costa to strengthen three key positions at Benfica | OneFootball

Marco Silva has told Rui Costa he wants further reinforcements at Benfica before the season begins, targeting a midfielder, a winger and a forward.

Speaking after the 2-1 defeat to Flamengo in the Troféu do Algarve, he made clear this was separate from the six internationals due to rejoin the group. Record reports that, if talks progress, João Palhinha could join the Luz without any midfielder needing to leave.

The hierarchy led by Rui Costa is aligned with the plan, but most arrivals are expected to depend on outgoings, via sales or loans, to free squad space and budget.

Midfield is not the only area flagged by the staff. The report added that recruiting a winger remains an objective, particularly given the strong possibility that Gianluca Prestianni could depart this summer.

Changes in attack also remain possible. Anísio is in Silva’s plans for the new season, while Franjo Ivanovic’s future is open, with several clubs monitoring him, and he could leave if a suitable offer emerges.
