Marco Silva’s arrival at Benfica could open the door to the first team for 17-year-old midfielder Miguel Figueiredo, who will have a major chance to impress during pre-season.
Record writes that the coach has received very positive reports on the Portugal youth international. Within the club, Figueiredo is viewed as a standout for technique, game intelligence, composure under pressure and defensive bite.
He is among six academy players called to start work with the senior group, alongside João Fonseca, Rui Silva, Gonçalo Moreira, Jaden Umeh and Peter Edokpolor. With several absences caused by the World Cup, Silva intends to study the group and assess who can earn a place for the new season.
Figueiredo was part of the 2008 generation that helped Portugal win the Under-17 World Cup. That cohort also featured Daniel Banjaqui, José Neto and Anísio Cabral, who have already debuted for Benfica’s first team.
Benfica’s faith in his potential is clear. Although contracted to 2028, the club are working on a renewal to safeguard a prized asset. After domestic titles at under-15, under-17 and under-19 level, a B-team debut and a José Mourinho call-up for a match in Arouca, he now aims to convince Silva he is ready for the next step.
