Marco Silva will start Benfica’s pre-season with academy players involved, including José Neto, Daniel Banjaqui and Anísio Cabral.
According to Glorioso 1904, training restarts on 25 June, with several first-team players still at the World Cup. Silva has outlined a group to work at Seixal, which will be finalised this week and communicated in the coming days.
The plan is to lean on homegrown talent. The former Fulham head coach sees potential at Seixal and wants to judge who is ready to step into first-team work, with chances to earn minutes in the opening official matches.
Under-17 world champions José Neto, Anísio Cabral and Daniel Banjaqui, already blooded with the seniors, are expected to be in the pre-season group. João Fonseca, Mauro Furtado, João Veloso, Rafael Quintas and Jaden Umeh should also get opportunities.
Pre-season is set to be decisive in shaping Benfica’s final squad. The club will learn their Europa League second qualifying round opponent on Wednesday, 17 June.
