Marcos Leonardo has been linked with Porto, but the former Benfica striker now looks set to continue his career with Ajax.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax have taken the lead in negotiations and are very close to completing a deal for the Brazilian.

Porto monitored him as an attacking option, and Fiorentina also followed the situation, but both have lost ground to the Dutch side.

If completed, the move would return Marcos Leonardo to European football after two seasons with Al Hilal. He left Benfica for Saudi Arabia and impressed.

He scored 48 goals in 82 official appearances for the Saudi club, a record that reignited European interest. A move could be confirmed in the coming days.
