Earlier this week, Marcus Rashford’s loan spell at Barcelona officially came to an end, and he is now once again a Manchester United player. The 29-year-old, who’s impressed for England at the 2026 World Cup, is unlikely to remain at Old Trafford by the time the summer transfer window closes, and at this stage, a return to Catalonia is not completely ruled out.
Rashford has been clear that his priority is to re-sign with Barcelona, although the club decided against activating the buy option in their agreement with Man United. Nevertheless, they still like him and would welcome another deal, although it would have to be on their terms – which the Premier League giants are not currently prepared to meet.
In the meantime, Rashford has been strongly linked to several other clubs, such as Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich. However, nothing will materialise until his involvement at the World Cup is over, as he himself confirmed to the media this week (via Sport).
“I live in the moment. I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup: I wanted it to be resolved before; if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t deal with it until later. I want to be fully present in this moment. We are fighting for something very special, I don’t have the energy to dedicate to that.”
Rashford performed very well during his time at Barcelona last season, as he racked up 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions. However, his playstyle does not entirely suit the way that Hansi Flick wants his players to perform, so it is not a major surprise that no efforts have yet been made to keep him at the Spotify Camp Nou.
That could change if Man United relax their stance, but given that Barcelona have already spent big on Anthony Gordon as his “replacement”, it would be a surprise if Rashford returned to Catalonia later this summer.
