Ruben Amorim did not hang about when making major changes at Manchester United soon after being appointed as the new head coach following Erik ten Hag’s sacking.
Plenty of players departed on loan in January, with Marcus Rashford being the most high-profile departure under the Portuguese tactician.
It was the Englishman who scored the first goal of the Amorim era but the honeymoon period did not last long.
His lack of effort in training infuriated the new boss, who dropped him from several matchday squads stating, “I will put Vital (goalkeeping coach) before I put a player that doesn’t give the maximum.”
A loan move to Aston Villa was hastily arranged, and in the summer, he departed to join Barcelona, who are expected to acquire his signature on a permanent basis.
The Mancunian has regained a modicum of the form he had shown at United under past managers, and in an recent interview with TV2 (via The Daily Mail), he revealed that he enjoyed playing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the most while he was at Old Trafford.
“Ole is a fantastic person. I loved playing under him. I can speak for many of the players at Manchester United when I say that we enjoyed playing for him.
“We played good football under Ole. It was a very successful period for me personally. He is a fantastic person, and I don’t have a bad word to say about him.”
These comments were a clear dig at Amorim, who now has bigger things to worry about as he looks to continue the 20-time English league champions’ winning league run.
The Red Devils certainly enjoyed their most consistent spell post the Sir Alex Ferguson era under the former Treble winner, with the club finishing third and second in consecutive top-flight campaigns.
However, while the England international’s quotes will please the Norwegian, the truth is Marcus Rashford could have done a lot more to help him in his final season.
His drop-off in form played a major role in Solskjaer’s sacking, while multiple managers have had to deal with the forward’s attitude issues behind the scenes.
United will be hoping that the Rashford chapter can finally come to an end next summer.
