Marcus Rashford looks set to leave Man Utd in the January transfer window and he has no shortage of suitors looking to take him on loan.

The wide forward has struggled for form this season and found himself excluded from the starting lineup for the past month by manager Ruben Amorim.

The player and the club seem destined to part ways, but finding a viable buyer appears unlikely due to the player’s enormous salary. He’s reportedly earning £325,000 per week after signing a five-year contract in 2023.

That’s why a six-month loan deal would make sense for all parties involved, allowing Rashford to get gametime elsewhere and become a more attractive proposition for a permanent transfer, as Jadon Sancho did last year. The winger impressed on loan with Borussia Dortmund enough to convince Chelsea to take him on loan with an obligation to buy last August.

Which clubs are interested?

Barcelona and AS Monaco have entered the picture this week, but they are surprisingly joined by Serie A side Como. The Italian outfit are managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas and owned by the Hartono brothers, easily the richest owners in the league.

Neither Como or Monaco have entered discussions with Rashford, but AC Milan, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus all had meetings with the player’s camp this week, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Clubs from the Premier League, including West Ham United, and the Saudi Pro League are said to be interested, although Romano reports that Saudi Arabia has been ruled out as a destination by Rashford. The transfer expert also says that Galatasaray hold an interest, but the player is prioritising teams in Europe’s top five leagues.

What Rashford has said

In an interview with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford made the strongest indication yet that he will leave Man Utd in the near future.

“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” he said. “When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.”

The Sun reported last month that Rashford had held talks with sports agency Stellar to pursue an exit, but he strenuously denied those claims.

“[There has] been a lot of false stories written over the past few weeks, but guys this is getting ridiculous – never met with any agency and don’t have any plans to,” he posted on Instagram.

What Ruben Amorim has said

The Red Devils manager has been coy on Rashford’s situation, but after leaving the 27-year-old on the bench as an unused sub against Newcastle United, the Portuguese said it is up to the player whether he has a future at Old Trafford.

“I already spoke a lot about Marcus, it depends more on him than on me,” said Amorim. “He has to want it really, really bad. He’s here, he’s in our squad so he’s our player and he’s ready to play if I decide.

“In that moment, I was really focused on trying to turn things around, to score one goal to open the game. And I chose, for example, (Alejandro) Garna[cho] to do the job. I was not focused on the idea that I put Marcus on or not because he was away for four games. It was not that. If he’s there, he’s ready to play but I chose Garnacho.”
