Marcus Rashford’s first goal under Ruben Amorim enters history books

Marcus Rashford was not wasting any time getting off the mark in his first game under Ruben Amorim on Sunday, but sadly Manchester United were unable to clinch three points after drawing with Ipswich Town.

It was still a great moment – on a personal level – for Rashford because of how quickly he scored the opening goal.

Ipswich Town were behind after two minutes in the 1-1 draw.

Rashford started up front in a 3-4-3 formation and he converted Amad Diallo’s sublime cross from the right flank to give the Reds a flying start at Portman Road.

While it wasn’t enough to win the game for United, it entered the history books as the fastest goal for any new manager at the club, as per ManUtd.com.

Rashford also scored the first goal under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (5 minutes in), but it’s not a record he’s going to boast too loudly about – unless Amorim goes on to be a success. Otherwise, it’s a bleak picture of how many different managers he has worked under at United.

The legendary Lou Macari netted for Dave Sexton and Ron Atkinson with a similar feat, but none of the goals came as quick as Rashford’s against Ipswich Town.

It wasn’t the greatest night for Rashford, despite reaching the history books, since his performance slipped off a cliff after his goal two minutes in.

Rashford will be expected to work harder under Amorim if he is to stake a place in the team as our centre-forward. The new head coach won’t make room for passengers if he wants more intensity than other teams.
