"I will be very, very, very demanding about the deadlines," said Valencia mayor María José Catalá, one year after works restarted at Nou Mestalla.

Speaking to Cadena Cope, she added: "I cannot say I am satisfied" after the small progress to date. "I am watching closely what is happening, which seems to be where we are for now."

"I will be decisive on any non-compliance and I am not going to tolerate it for a single day," she said, noting that "for now, it is not happening". "I will remain watchful of what happens."

Work resumed in January 2025, 16 years after the project was halted. Early 2025 brought site preparation, durability testing and concrete repairs, including reinforcements, cracks, access points, stair cores and seating. Interior architecture and masonry began on lower floors and basements, and late in the year the first pillar for the future roof was installed.

This year brings a new phase with fresh concrete works and assembly of exterior staircases. Further tasks cover the facade, upper-floor masonry, aluminium, metal and wood joinery, finishes, roofing and waterproofing, installations and access towers. The roof installation will continue, with completion due in 2027.
