Mariona Caldentey helped puncture the fear of leaving Barça and Liga F for England, and Spain now face England at Wembley on Tuesday in their bid to reach next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

"Obviously there are many changes, leaving the comfort zone not only at club and football level but also in lifestyle. The winter has been tough, very cold, little sun, many hours of darkness. But I am happy, it has been a good change, I am learning a lot and enjoying the experience. I think it is making me a better player, which was one of the objectives," she told EL PERIÓDICO.

England became a magnet for elite players after winning Euro 2022. The league has been rebuilt and quickly established itself as the world’s leading competition, with 12 teams to Spain’s 16, shorter trips, better rest and full professional standards across the board. Matches are tight and unpredictable, the bottom side can beat the leaders.

Spain visit Wembley at 20:00 on La 2, returning to a stadium tied to their Euro elimination, a tournament that propelled England to their current standing.

Caldentey, who recently reached 100 caps for Spain, now meets a rival she knows well on the national stadium stage.

Irene Paredes said these contests have become a global fixture, that supporters enjoy them and players relish them, adding that Spain trust in their approach. Spain have yet to win at Wembley. Coach Sonia Bermúdez expects a full house and a game decided by fine details, and hopes for three points.
