Marius Broholm has slipped out of Lille’s plans in recent weeks, missing recent Ligue 1 squads. According to L'Équipe, the 21-year-old Norway Under-21 international has fallen down the pecking order on the flanks.
Signed from Rosenborg for 5 million euros after months of tracking, Broholm arrived alongside Olivier Giroud, whose unveiling dominated attention. He left Trondheim with 56 appearances and 19 goals.
His Lille bow in pre-season was eye-catching, an assist three minutes after a slaloming run against La Gantoise in a 2-0 win on 8 July 2025. Adapting since has proved challenging amid a more intense and physical league, though president Olivier Létang insisted last summer the winger had the personality for big occasions.
Game time has been limited to 462 minutes in all competitions, yielding two goals. He converted a penalty against Paris FC in a 4-2 Ligue 1 win on 23 November, then struck the winner at US Saint-Maur Lusitanos in the Coupe de France round of 32 on 20 December.
Head coach Bruno Genesio views Broholm’s current absence as a sporting decision rather than a physical issue, with increased competition on the right after winter arrivals Gaëtan Perrin and Noah Edjouma. He considers the situation not definitive and wants the winger to keep working to regain a place, with league matches now his priority as he is not on the UEFA list.
Those close to Broholm accept an adaptation phase, similar to others in their first Lille season such as Edon Zhegrova, whom he replaced after the Kosovar joined Juventus. The Norwegian remains positive and retains club backing, with recruitment coordinator Jérémie Colson a key link. Under contract until 2030, he will seek a breakthrough next year, at Lille or elsewhere.
