Gary Rowett was the man in the dugout for the final part of the campaign, but he has since moved on, with the Foxes hierarchy now on the lookout for a new boss.

Clearly, it’s a massive decision for the club, as Leicester need someone who can help them bounce back at the first opportunity, but also need to galvanise an unhappy fan base and work within the financial parameters that are in place.

So, it’s not an easy task, but the history of the club, to go with the training ground, fan base and stadium, mean it’s certain to be an attractive option to managers out there.

Leicester City told to target EFL experience with their next appointment

A host of names have been linked with the vacancy over the past few weeks, and Leicester will be narrowing down their search ahead of trying to secure an appointment in time for pre-season and a busy window.

For some, there is disappointment that a decision hasn’t been made already, and, when asked by FLW about who he wants to see as the next boss, FLW's Leicester fan pundit Jamie Thorpe urged the club to make a quick call, as he explained why EFL experience is vital, with Mark Robins and Nigel Pearson among those he suggested.

It’s a bit of a poisoned chalice, as nobody has really succeeded in the last couple of years. Gary Rowett, Marti Cifuentes, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Steve Cooper, Dean Smith, and, even to an extent, Brendan Rodgers, didn’t do a good job in the last 18 months.

We need someone that knows the challenges we will face, and can get us out of this league. Personally, I would love Sean Dyche or Scott Parker, but I just don’t know.

Russell Martin, we keep going for Southampton players and staff, and we can’t keep going back to them. Mark Robins would be a good choice.

I think we need someone like Nigel Pearson. I think he would do a really good job. They say never go back, but he has been back twice.

I haven’t got a clear-cut favourite. There are a lot of names mentioned, but it is a tough call. For me, I would love to see Robins in the job. An ex-Leicester player, who plays decent football. Would Dyche and Parker be willing to drop down money-wise? We need someone who is up for the challenge, and we can’t leave it much longer.”

Leicester City simply must get this appointment right as pressure builds

It would make a lot of sense for Leicester to target a manager with EFL experience, because the importance of winning promotion next season can’t be understated.

Right now, the Foxes are a club in disarray, and the understandable fan anger runs deep, so it won’t be easy to change the mood.

Nevertheless, it can still happen, and the first step is bringing in a manager who has a presence that can help lift the whole club.

Of course, Pearson did that with Leicester in the past, and that’s the type of figure that they need again, so it’s no surprise the former boss was mentioned here.

Realistically, it’s very difficult to imagine Dyche or Parker dropping to League One, but Robins is an interesting option, as FLW has exclusively revealed that his future at Stoke is in doubt.

This does show that there are a lot of credible candidates out there though, so it will be interesting to see who Leicester do appoint, as it’s a massive decision facing owner Khun Top and the other key figures at the club.
