Omar Marmoush netted twice against Newcastle United as Manchester City came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory at St James’ Park and book their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The hosts made the brighter start and took the lead after 18 minutes. Sandro Tonali played a precise through ball to Harvey Barnes, who cut inside before curling a fine finish into the far corner.
The goal sparked a strong response from City, who gradually took control of the match. Their pressure eventually paid off before half-time when Jeremy Doku’s cross found Savinho at the back post, with the ball bouncing off the winger and over the line.
Pep Guardiola’s side carried that momentum into the second half and turned the game around almost immediately. Savinho and Matheus Nunes combined down the right, and Marmoush was waiting to drive home from close range.
The Egyptian forward then sealed the result midway through the half with a superb long-range strike that flew beyond Aaron Ramsdale.
The win sends Manchester City into the last eight of the competition, while Newcastle’s hopes of domestic silverware this season come to an end.
