As was the case at the end of last season, Marquinhos (32) will be allowed to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, as per a report from L’Équipe.
There was a feeling of a mission being completed when Marquinhos lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy at the end of last season. With PSG having already wrapped up the win against Inter Milan, the Brazilian was in tears on the pitch before the final whistle had even been blown. Brought in at the start of the QSI era, he had finally won the title that he – and the club’s owners – had always had their eyes set on.
PSG would have allowed him to leave at that point, and the signing of Illia Zabarnyi was a sign of succession planning. Ultimately, however, he remained. But once again, PSG won’t force their club captain to remain.
In recent years, Marquinhos has been the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia. The Brazil international is now less inclined to make the move to the Gulf State. If he is to make the move to the Middle East, he would favour a move to Qatar, L’Équipe understands.
