According to La Provence, Marseille are considering Sunderland sporting director Florent Ghisolfi as they search for a new sporting director. He only joined the Black Cats in July 2025 after leaving AS Roma. He has been central to recruitment alongside head coach Régis Le Bris during a promising return to the Premier League.

The report said the Ligue 1 club, now led by president Stéphane Richard, have enlisted an external agency to draw up candidates, with Ghisolfi viewed as a strong fit given his experience in French and European football.

The Frenchman has previously held roles at Lorient, Lens and Nice, then moved to Roma, building a reputation for recruitment and squad construction.

Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend lifted them to 10th, just two points behind sixth-placed Chelsea, underlining their progress this season.

Despite the reported interest, there is no indication Ghisolfi is looking to leave. The 39-year-old has only just begun his Wearside role and is thought to be focused on the summer window and the club’s long-term project.

Working closely with Le Bris, he is expected to help strengthen the squad as Sunderland look to build on this campaign and establish themselves at Premier League level.

With the run-in under way and European qualification still possible, stability behind the scenes is viewed as crucial. Sunderland have played in Europe only once, after their 1973 FA Cup win, and have finished in the top 10 of the top flight just four times in 70 years.
