The center-back Raul Asencio is one of the players whose future at Real Madrid is highly uncertain. The Merengues have already brought in a new center-back, Ibrahima Konate, this summer, and reports suggest that Jose Mourinho wants his club to sign another one before the end of the transfer window, despite also having the likes of Dean Huijsen, Eder Militao, and Antonio Rudiger in his squad.
The Spaniard was keen to impress the new coach, Jose Mourinho, and make himself a part of his plans for the next season earlier in the summer. However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the Portuguese coach will not be counting on him, and thus, he might end up accepting a departure.
In this context, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Ligue 1 side Marseille are interested in his signing, but they are looking to get him only on loan with a €15 million purchase clause which will become obligatory if some conditions, mainly related to playing time and appearances, are met. Furthermore, Real Madrid will retain 25% of the player’s rights if this purchase clause if activated.
However, for now, there is nothing concrete regarding this operation, but there is no doubt that this can be an alluring option for Asencio, as he will get to play in a competitive league, without the pressure and competition he faces at the Merengue club.
Meanwhile, another club that was previously linked with the defender, Benfica, have reportedly opted out of his signing. The Portuguese club had discussed his transfer with Real Madrid, but negotiations broke down as they were not willing to meet the Merengues’ demand to keep a buyback option on the player for the next summer.
For now, it remains to be seen where Raul Asencio will be playing next season, as Jose Mourinho seems not to have him too prominently in his plans for the next season.
